About Aman

I grew up speaking Punjabi but did not learn to read and write until high school. I went to high school in Surrey where I took Punjabi classes to learn to read and write Punjabi which helped me grow as an individual. It brought me closer to my culture and heritage.

I was born in India, but grew up in Surrey, Canada. I spoke Punjabi at home growing up and English at school. I went to UBC for both my B.A. and B.Ed. I majored in English and minored in history. Afterwards, I completed my Bachelor of Education, specializing in elementary teaching.

Today, I am a B.C. Certified teacher in Surrey. I teach middle school children. I see myself as a lifelong learner who is passionate about languages and cultures. I am fortunate to learn and speak four languages as it has changed my worldview. I strongly believe that language helps us to connect and deepen our connection with others including land while giving us a sense of belonging.
