About Sonia
Learning to read, write and speak Punjabi was something I learned at a very young age. My mother really wanted us to know our language and uphold the customs. I learned to speak Punjabi in my household while communicating with my grandparents as well as attending Punjabi tutoring sessions for reading. I am grateful that I was able to learn Punjabi and communicate with my family and community members.
I graduated Simon Fraser University with a B.A in Heath Sciences in 2019. Shortly thereafter, I made the choice to switch and pursue a career in education and teaching. I completed the Professional Development Program with Simon Fraser University and finished my Bachelors of Education with a minor in learning disabilities. My passion lies in education and empowering youth and children through open and collaborative learning.
I currently work in the Surrey School District in an elementary classroom. I hope to inspire my students and motivate them to achieve all that they desire and to soak up all the knowledge they can. Punjabi is such a beautiful language and comes with a rich culture that can be passed down through generations to come.
