About Ranbir
I am a native speaker of Punjabi but did not learn to read or write the language until my first year of university. I began this program in September 2020 as a response to the lack of suitable Punjabi conversation classes for youth.
I have taught Punjabi for 18 years and created multiple resources including an online textbook, government exams and audio resources. I have also conducted workshops for other Punjabi teachers. I pursued my Masters and Doctorate degrees in Punjabi literature and performance traditions at the University of British Columbia (UBC). I also earned a Bachelor of Education in 2002.
Professionally, I taught English 10 and 11, as well as Punjabi at a secondary school for four years before moving onto a full-time position at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2007 where I currently teach in the Department of Language and Cultures, as well as the Department of Asian Studies.
